Beta Ray Bill and Swamp Thing

We have seen numerous characters assume the power of Thor by now, but when Beta Ray Bill first hit the scene, it was still a new and shocking development to see.  And boy, did he really hit the scene, making his debut by smashing his hammer through the logo of Thor #337 - it's no wonder they had to create a brand new logo for issue #338!  It was a great way to introduce a new character, and i have been a fan ever since.

"Space Seed," huh? Is that a pun on the Marvel one-shot that was entitled "Legion Of Monsters: Star Seed?" Or a reference to a certain Stanley Kubrick film where Zarathustra spoke too much?

Star Trek reference, actually...

Though I've never actually read a story will Beta Ray Bill in it, I've had something of a fascination with him since I first saw him in Marvel's character guide. (Was the title Ultimate Guide to the Marvel Universe? Someone help me out here.)

Mainly, it was interesting to me that Mjolnir had actually found another person that it was willing to work for. The only other one I know of is Throg; and I know that Wonder Woman was able to lift it in the Marvel vs. DC event. Who else has there been? (The Vision doing so in the Age of Ultron movie doesn't count.)

Speaking of the film, I had one disappointment with the business of lifting Thor's hammer (other than it taking up just a little too much time). I kept hoping that the heroes would get into a slightly heated argument about it, and not notice as the cleaning lady comes by and casually lifts it to wipe the table.

And a completely unrelated suggestion: Ghost and the Spirit. Besides the name synchronicity, I think they'd make an interesting pair.

In current Marvel comics, isn't the "unworthy" Thor searching for Stormbringer hoping to restore his godhood?

Great pair, and awesome cover!

@Bob Greenwade: I believe Steve "The Once and Future Captain America" Rogers was able to lift it, on one occasion.

Then there was that What If? issue where Jane Foster gained the power of Thor, so I guess she was worthy, too.

If purity of soul is a criterion, Aunt May might lift Mjolnir...

Unfortunately, the same no longer holds true for the post-Flashpoint Capt. Shazam.
